Demand rises at Bloomington food bank

From the Bloomington Herald-Times:

As of June 30, Hoosier Hills Food Bank had distributed 1,321,744 pounds of food, an increase of 15 percent, 172,000 pounds more than at midyear 2008.

The food bank’s executive director, Julio Alonso, cited both negative and positive trends as factors in the increased distribution.

“We’re distributing almost 29,000 pounds more food each month than we did last year,” he said.
