A Monroe County Council Community Services Grant Committee has recommended that SCCAP receive $4,000 to help create a Barrier Reduction Fund for participants in the Circles Initiative.
The Barrier Reduction Fund will be used to provide urgent health, security, shelter and transportation for low-income individuals and families who are working to become financially stable through the Monroe County Circles Initiative. The funds are intended to reduce barriers, helping the participants overcome crises in their lives that can lead to a downward spiral and impede self-sufficiency.
The Monroe County Council is expected to take final action on the Committee’s recommendations for Community Services Grants at its meeting on Tuesday, Oct. 13.
After receiving 24 applications for a total of $223,285.37, the committee recommended to provide funding to 17 organizations for a total of $95,000, which is the amount County Council budgeted for Community Service Grants.
