Hoosier Hysteria to benefit Hoosier Hills Food Bank

Once again this year, the IU’s Hoosier Hysteria event to tip-off the start of basketball season will benefit local low-income people who need food by providing donations of canned food to the Hoosier Hills Food Bank.

Admission to the event at Assembly Hall this Friday, Oct. 16, is one canned food item.  The schedule for the event has the women’s and men’s basketball teams signing autographs at 6:30 p.m. (no outside items will be signed). The women’s volleyball team will have a match against Iowa at 5:30 p.m., followed by an introduction and scrimmage featuring the women’s basketball team. The tentative schedule has the women’s team taking the floor at 7:45, followed by the men’s team at 8:30.

Doors will open at 4:30 p.m. So if you follow IU sports, why not get a first look at this year’s basketball teams, while also donating some much-needed canned food to the Hoosier Hills Food Bank. The need for food and other assistance for low-income people is higher than it’s been in recent years because of the economic recession.

  1. Here’s an update — Hoosier Hills Food Bank Executive Director Julio Alonso will appear on Glass on the Morning on Tuesday, Oct. 27 to talk about the rising demand for food to serve local people in poverty and to give an update on the proceeds from Hoosier Hysteria and the CROP Walk.
