Here’s my first Tuesday News post. Some SCCAP employees already know about a couple of announcements of additional funding for SCCAP, but for everyone else, check out this terrific news.
SCCAP has been awarded a $396,000 Sustainable Energy Resources for Consumers grant from the U.S. Department of Energy and the Indiana Housing and Community Development Authority. These funds will be used by our Weatherizaton Department to install 33 tankless water heaters, 50 heat pumps and five passive solar panel systems in homes occupied by low-income families. This will save energy, which benefits all of us, and will save money for our clients, thereby helping them improve their financial situations.
In addition, SCCAP has received a $5,000 grant from the Head Start Body Start National Center for Physical Development and Outdoor Play. These funds will be used to install natural playground areas at the new Early Head Start and traditional Head Start center at Jack’s Defeat Creek near Ellettsville.
Items purchased will include a cedar picnic table, outdoor blocks, pedestal sound pipes, sketch and sculpt table, sandbox with lid, outdoor activity table, river rock bed, sandstone bench, aqua blocks and tongue drum. I’m not yet quite sure what some of these items are, but I’m pretty sure this is going to be quite an interesting playground.
Kudos go to SCCAP Director of Operations Chris Myers who put together the request for Sustainable Energy Resources for Consumers funding and SCCAP Parent Involvement Coordinator Bethany Terry who spearheaded the application for Head Start Body Start funds.
